NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen Huang, just dropped a bombshell at CES 2026 with the unveiling of "Alpamayo" – the world's first "thinking and reasoning" AI model for autonomous vehicles! 🤯 This isn't just a fancy phrase; it's a game-changer that could significantly impact the landscape of self-driving technology.

What does it mean for Tesla's FSD? It basically means Jensen just delivered a Mike Tyson-like blow to Tesla’s FSD monetary ambitions. Don’t take my word for it, Elon just announced that Tesla is shifting from an $8,000 lifetime FSD subscription to a $99 monthly subscription. That seems like nothing until you actually do the math, Tesla went from collecting $8K in cold hard cash upfront, to now collecting $8K over 6.5 years and that is if they are lucky. I am not a math genius, but no one does that unless they absolutely have to.

Remember back in 2025 when Elon promised to have robo-taxis on the streets of America by this time? We were supposed to be drowning in robo-taxis, but that has not happened. Level 2 autonomy is all they have been able to muster up as of now, but we will give Elon a pass this time, it’s not like he gives us the wrong timeline frequently.

However, we have to give Elon credit, Tesla's latest version of FSD is quite good and from all the YouTube videos we can see that it is driving customers everywhere hands-free while of course, paying attention to the road.

Jensen Huang's announcement at CES is a clear signal: true self-driving is becoming a commodity and could democratize the technology for all manufacturers, not just for Tesla or Waymo exclusively. If I can take a page from Elon’s book, one day self-driving car technology could be free, and driving much like employment...could be optional.

The only thing all the other automotive manufacturers have to do is pick up what Jensen is putting down and start adopting this groundbreaking technology.
